Doctors Launch babyQ App
Two West Michigan doctors are helping expecting moms around the globe with the launch of babyQ, a website and free iTunes app. The app has been downloaded by thousands of women from more than 20 countries since it launched in November. It works by generating a babyQ score based on a 22-question survey about the user’s lifestyle, exercise, stress and nutrition habits. The user then receives custom tips via text message or the babyQ website, to help make healthier choices that will increase overall maternal and fetal health.
“We can help women turn on the correct genes while their babies are still in the womb, setting the stage for better physical, emotional, and intellectual development, including IQ,” says babyQ co-creator, Dr. Gostine.
Dr. Gostine of Michigan Pain Consultants and Dr. Forde, formerly of Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners, were inspired to develop babyQ through their own research on nearly 40,000 deliveries in West Michigan. Dr. Gostine realized the importance of sharing these findings when his daughter was expecting her first child. As a soon-to-be grandfather, Dr. Gostine would text health tips to his daughter. She would forward the texts to her pregnant friends. The seed for babyQ was planted.
