Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

Another icy celebration took place in West Michigan over the weekend. More than a hundred adventurous people, most of them decked out in costume, took the Polar Plunge into Reeds Lake in East Grand Rapids on Saturday. The annual event raises money and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan. Taking the plunge also earns you a spot in a thrilling and generous club of volunteers who often return each winter to take part in one of the 27 plunges across the state. National Conductive Education Day

Thursday, February 21 is National Conductive Education Day.

Conductive education is a holistic and intensive approach that combines medical knowledge with educational methods. This world-renowned teaching method has helped millions of children with motor disorders  gain independence. The Conductive Learning Center in Grand Rapids serves children birth to age 26 with motor disorders related to complications of prematurity, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida or brain injury. For these children with motor disorders, even the smallest tasks – eating, buttoning a shirt, sitting in a chair –can be monumental. The Conductive Learning Center (CLC) can change that. Learn more about CLC during National Conductive Education Day here and watch an interview with CLC Executive Director, Terry Stelter on FOX 17 and WJRW Newstalk Radio.
